Apartment plan calls for $1.5 million city subsidy PDF Print E-mail

One of two proposals for Port marina-area land would be third project to receive TIF incentives

It will cost the City of Port Washington $1.5 million in incentives and infrastructure work if aldermen agree to a proposal by Ansay Development to create 44 apartment units on the former Victor’s property and the adjoining city-owned car-trailer parking lot near the marina, representatives said Tuesday.
Architect Stephen Smith, who wants to build 11 townhouse condominium units just on the parking lot property, will not be seeking any development incentives from the city, his attorney said.
But, Smith added, he would look to have the city remediate the property and make some infrastructure changes through its tax incremental financing district — changes that would be reflected in the price of the parking lot.
Those revelations came Tuesday as the two parties presented their plans to the Common Council for consideration.
While members of the public — including several representatives of city committees that had reviewed the proposals previously — offered numerous comments about the two plans during the meeting, aldermen offered no opinions about them, instead asking only a few questions before meeting in closed session to discuss the proposals.
