Hingiss says measure would target underage drinking but Port aldermen, organizers call it a burden

A proposal intended to help curb underage drinking at Fish Day by requiring wristbands for people who buy or consume alcoholic beverages at the festival was met with skepticism Tuesday.

Members of the Port Washington Finance and License Committee lauded the intention of the proposal by Police Chief Kevin Hingiss but questioned the logistics, as did members of the Fish Day Committee.

“In theory, it’s great. I think in concept it’s good. I just don’t know how we can carry it out,” said Fish Day Chairman Mary Monday.

Stands Chairman Dave Tainter said, “My concern is it’s kind of a logistical nightmare to get everyone banded. We’re talking 30,000 people.”
