Grafton board OKs utility’s proposal to remediate site near Stonecroft despite road, environmental concerns

Town of Grafton officials on Monday reached a tentative agreement with We Energies to move 53,000 cubic yards of fly ash from an old dump site on Stonecroft Drive — near the City of Port Washington’s southern border and close to the proposed Cedar Vineyard subdivision — to the utility’s existing landfill on Highway 32.

The agreement, which as of Wednesday morning still required approval from the utility’s headquarters, outlined everything from the hours work would be allowed on the old fly ash site to the route trucks will take on their way to the landfill on Highway 32 near the I-43 interchange.

It also spells out the amount of money We Energies will pay to rebuild Stonecroft Drive and requires the fly ash site to be rezoned for conservancy after it is remediated.
