Whether they support it or not, residents take time to understand PW-S school plan

More than 60 people attended the last of three Port Washington-Saukville School District referendum forums last week —proof, officials say, that the case they’ve made for school improvements and the $49.4 million price they’ve put on them are resonating with voters, for better or worse.

“What we’ve seen shows us that the residents of our two communities are very engaged in this process, which was our goal from the beginning,” Supt. Michael Weber said. “People believe something needs to be done in our schools. What is that something? Hopefully it’s what we’re proposing in the referendum.”

On the April 7 ballot, voters will be asked whether they support borrowing $49.4 million to build a $3.8 million addition at Dunwiddie Elementary School to ease overcrowding at that school as well as Lincoln Elementary School and $45.6 million to turn Port Washington High School, parts of which date to 1931, into a “like-new” facility.
