Group to move event to Coal Dock Park but says it’s not involved in controversial development

The Paramount Music Association, previously known as the Grafton Blues Association, is moving its blues festival to Port Washington — the second major initiative announced this year that would capitalize on the city’s role in Paramount Records.

The other is the Blues Factory, a proposed Paramount Records-themed entertainment complex proposed for a city-owned lakefront parking lot that would include a museum run by a nonprofit group, a restaurant, banquet hall and entertainment venue.

Kris Raymond, president of the Paramount Blues Association, said it is a “happy coincidence” that the two events are expected to occur at about the same time.

“We are not currently affiliated with them,” she said.

Chris Long, president and chief executive officer of the Blues Factory, said, “The community is fortunate the Paramount Music Association plans to bring its passion for Paramount Records and American roots music home to Port.

“The Blues Factory is excited to explore ways our two organizations can work together to bring this amazing regional story to life for residents and visitors.”
