Commission approves Microbrush plan for storage facilities in Corporate Park

The Grafton Plan Commission on Monday agreed to allow a manufacturing firm to construct two 40-foot resin silos in the village’s Corporate Park.

Microbrush International requested permission to build the silos outside its plant at 1376 Cheyenne Ave. to store raw materials. Company officials said the silos will free up warehouse space in the 41,688-square-foot building.

The firm designs, manufactures and distributes applicators and application systems for the dental industry, including micro-applications, bristle brushes, syringe tips and dispenser cartridges.

In addition to manufacturing and warehouse areas, the Grafton facility has engineering, design, accounting and sales offices.

Plans call for the silos to be built on the south side of the building along Dakota Street.

In a report to the commission, village Director of Planning and Development Jessica Wolff said the silos will be visible from both Cheyenne Avenue and Dakota Street.

“However, the staff thinks they are appropriate for the manufacturing/industrial character of the area,” she said.

At 39 feet, 9 inches tall, the silos will be under the 45-foot maximum allowed in the industrial district, Wolff said.

Microbrush currently has 50 employees. In its site plan, the firm said a growing demand for its products prompted the need for silos to more efficiently store materials and cut costs, which in turn will lead to the hiring of 25 more employees.

The commission unanimously approved the site plan, which is scheduled to be considered by the Architectural Review Board on Feb. 13.

Microbrush was established in 1993 by co-owners Philip Mark and Gunnar Walkin. The company’s other manufacturing facility is in Ireland.
