The Grafton Plan Commission on Tuesday unanimously recommended approval of rezoning and a conditional-use permit for a 191,352-square-foot Meijer supercenter on the village’s east side.

Approval of both Meijer requests by the Village Board on Tuesday, Sept. 4, would pave the way for construction of the store on a 33-acre parcel on Port Washington Road, south of the Home Depot and Target stores.

Meijer, a Michigan-based company that operates 200 grocery/department stores in five states and wants to expand into Wisconsin, unveiled plans in July to built an outlet in Grafton. The store would be open 24 hours daily.

Plans also call for a 2,460-square-foot convenience store with fuel pumps, parking for 683 vehicles and two out lots for future development.

The project is subject to review by the  Architectural Review Board.
