Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 27, at Prayer House Assembly of God in Kenosha for Todd M. Smolinski of Grafton.

Mr. Smolinski, 43, died Monday, Dec. 20, following open heart surgery at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton.

Burial was in Green Ridge Cemetery in Kenosha.

Memorials are suggested to the Todd Smolinski Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo Bank or to Prayer House Assembly of God in Kenosha.

Proko Funeral Home and Crematory in Kenosha handled arrangements.

Oyvind Hansen

Oyvind “Erv” B. Hansen, 82, who lived on Towhee Trail in the Town of Port Washington, died of renal cancer Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Memorials in Mr. Hansen’s name are requested to Right to Play, an international organization that provides safe areas for children to play. It was founded by Johann Olav Koss, the four-time Norwegian gold medalist whom Mr. Hansen met while attending the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway.

Arrangements are being handled by Eernisse Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 3, for Grafton resident Catherine Tom Liang, 89, who died Thursday, Dec. 23, at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Port Washington.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Pinelawn Memorial Park on Capitol Drive in Milwaukee.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service.

Burial will be at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Arrangements are being handled by Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington.

Harm H. Modder died of melanoma Tuesday, Dec. 28, at his Port Washington home. He was 60.

A memorial Mass for Mr. Modder will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Cathedral of St. Paul in St. Paul, Minn. Father John Meyer will officiate.

Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 8.

Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in St. Paul.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested.

Funeral arrangements were handled through Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington.

Retired Ozaukee County Veterans Service Officer Thomas H. Burkhalter of Port Washington died Thursday, Dec. 23. at Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee Hospital in Mequon. He was 80.

A funeral service for Mr. Burkhalter was to be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at  St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grafton. The Rev. James O’Reilly-Christenson was to officiate.

Visitation was to be from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington.

A combined veterans organization walk-through was to be conducted at 5:30 p.m.

Burial with military honors was to be at Southern Wisconsin Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.

Former Grafton area resident Bernice Dickman Kosey, 95, died Dec. 6, at Bayside Village nursing home in L’Anse, Mich.

She was born in Milwaukee on April 21, 1915, the eldest daughter of Michael and Helen Dickman.

She grew up in Grafton, and graduated from Grafton High School.

On March 19, 1935, she married Paul Kosey in Houghton, Mich.

He preceded his wife in death in 1994.

At the age of 50, Mrs. Kosey attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Hancock, Mich., graduating as a certified nurse’s aide.

Mrs. Kosey devoted much of her life to serving the elderly. She became involved with the Upper Michigan Community on Aging, organizing senior programs and serving on the non-profit group’s board of directors for 20 years.

Mrs. Kosey was also the first director of Baragaland Senior Citizens, Inc., retiring after 22 years.

She served on the boards of many community groups, including Baraga-Houghton-Keweenaw Community Action, Baraga County Transit Authority and various local housing commissions.

After moving to Ontonagon, Mich., Mrs. Kosey continued her involvement with senior causing, serving on the Gogebic-Ontonagon County Commission on Aging and as president of the Riverview Senior Center.

In recognition of her activism, she received the Gerald Wyman Award for outstanding service to Michigan’s elderly and was invited to the White House.

Mrs. Kosey is survived by her daughter Pauline Wesander, eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by her daughter-in-law Patricia Kosey and sister-in-law Alice Kosey.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Kosey was preceded in death by her son Ron, daughter Joan, brother Elroy Dickman and sister Madeline Freitag.

A memorial service will be held in spring at Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, Mich. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Ontonagon.
