Daniel L. Ramthun of Grafton died Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Lawlis Family Hospice Center in Mequon.  He was 70.
    Mr. Ramthun was born Jan. 9, 1947, in West Allis, son of Sylvester and Elizabeth Sander Ramthun. He graduated from Nathan Hale High School before attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
    Mr. Ramthun enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1968 and served on the USS Long Beach.
    On May 17, 1969, he married Linda Sader at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple settled in Milwaukee, started their family and moved to Grafton in 1977.
    Mr. Ramthun was employed as a tool maker, most recently at Ark-les Custom Products in New Berlin.  He retired in 2015 after more than 20 years on the job.
    He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grafton and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10171.
    Mr. Ramthun loved woodworking and made many projects, including cribs for his grandchildren, a bookcase with stained glass doors and a deck for their home.
    When his children were younger, Mr. Ramthun was involved with Boy Scout Troop 839, and enjoyed camping and helping guide the boys towards their goals.
    Survivors include his wife Linda and their children Phillip (Laura) Ramthun of Farmington, Minn., and Jennifer (James) Sindicic of Jackson.
    He is further survived by five grandchildren; Wyatt, Faith, Julia, Calvin and Sabrina; brother Jim (Judy) Ramthun of Cedarburg; and sisters Ellen (Ron) Fuchs and Patricia (Louis) Kemper, both of Colorado.
    Mr. Ramthun was preceded in death by his parents.
    Private family services were held. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
    Eernisse Funeral Home in Cedarburg handled the arrangements.
