Florence E. Jaeger, 93, of Port Washington, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon.
She was born Feb. 8, 1924, in Port Washington, the daughter of John P. “JP” and Flora Meyer Husting.
Mrs. Jaeger attended St. Mary’s School and later worked as an aide at the former St. Alphonsus Hospital in Port Washington.
On June 7, 1947, she married Walter E. “Ozzie” Jaeger of Thiensville at St. Mary’s Church in Port Washington.
For many years, the couple lived in Grafton, where they raised a family and were members of St. Joseph Parish.
Mr. Jaeger died on Jan. 4, 1991. Mrs. Jaeger then moved to Port Washington.
“After Dad died, she lived all those years alone at Maple Crest Apartments. She became very independent and even drove until she was 90,” her son Barry said. “That’s when we said, ‘OK, it’s time Mom gets to be driven by the family.’”
Tending to her bird feeders was among her interests.
“She’d take photos out her apartment window of the birds and the wildlife that gather around them on the ground,” her son said. “She loved to be outside in the sun. And she loved her grill-outs.”
Mrs. Jaeger is survived by her children Linda (Randy) Butzke of Portage, Brian (Tina) of Allenton, Bruce (Kim) of DePere and Barry (Jill) of Cedarburg; grandchildren Dan (Kari Jo), Stephanie (Nate), Joseph, Tom (Kelsey), David, Jessica (John), Jeremy, Cody and Brianna; seven great-grandchildren; sister Joyce Zignego of Hartford; and brothers Ronald (Marilyn) Husting of Mukwonago and Gerald Husting of Crivitz.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ozzie, sisters Mary Basken and Esther Husting, brothers Harold and Oliver “Ollie” Husting, brother-in-law Vernon Zignego, and granddaughter Rhonda Butzke.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, Sept. 12, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary Church, in Port Washington.  Father Don Zerkel officiated.
Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Grafton.
Poole Funeral Home, Port Washington, assisted the family.
