Rosalie M. “Sally” Braun, 101, died Monday, Aug. 7, at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Washington, where she had resided since 2009.
“You could hear her humming and singing as she went down the hall in her wheelchair,” her niece Mary Schneider said. “After she turned 100, she’d often tell people ‘I’m only about 98’ when they’d ask her age.”
Mrs. Braun was born Jan.  22, 1916,  in Charlesburg to Peter and Barbara Leitner Karls.
She married Jerome A. Braun of Ashford on Sept. 17, 1940, in Milwaukee.  The couple eventually made their home in Fredonia, across from St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Mr. Braun operated a barber shop  from their home for many years. He preceded Mrs. Braun in death on Feb. 1, 1993.
“She really enjoyed having that barber shop down in their basement,” her niece said. “She enjoyed talking with the customers. After her husband died, there were many other widows who’d come to her house and visit. She had a lot of friends.”
Mrs. Braun was active at St. Rose Parish and enjoyed playing cards and bingo.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Leona Karls of Chilton.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Barbara Ann; sisters Marie Olszyk, Marcella Kraemer, Martina Zolp, Adeline Schrweide and Margaret Morgan; and brothers Alfred, Edmund and Joseph Karls.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, at Divine Savior Parish, St. Rose Chapel, in Fredonia.         Visitation begins at 1:30 p.m.
The Rev. Todd Budde will officiate.
