Franklin J. Friede, 85, of Port Washington and formerly of Cedarburg, died at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon on Monday, Aug. 7.
    Mr. Friede was born in Mequon on June 7, 1932, the son of Reinhold and Lydia Lemke Friede.
    He graduated from Cedarburg High School, where he enjoyed playing football, and he followed the team and went to the games up until a few years ago.
    During high school, Mr. Friede met Adell Verhaalen, and the couple married on Oct. 17, 1953.
    Mr. Friede was an automobile mechanic who fulfilled his dream of running his own business called Friede’s Service.  
    Mr. Friede was involved with Town & Country 4-H Club and the First Immanuel Lutheran Church Men’s Club in Cedarburg.
    Mr. Friede is survived by his children Diane (Randy) Yokes of Port Washington, Susan (Robert) Burmeister of Cedarburg, Cheryl (Scott) Hooper of Newnan, Ga., Ellen (Raymond) Swanson of Grafton and Mark (Pamela) of River Falls; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
    He is further survived by his brother Elroy (Ruth) of Juneau, brother-in-law Lloyd Verhaalen of Cedarburg, and sisters-in-law Mary Verhaalen of Cedarburg and Mabel Verhaalen of Sheboygan.
    Mr. Friede was preceded in death by his wife Adell, parents Reinhold and Lydia Friede, sister Doris Fick, father and mother-in-law Edward and Mabel Verhaalen, and brothers-in-law Darwin Verhaalen and Harvey Fick.
    A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday Aug. 12, at First Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cedarburg, officiated by the Rev. Randolph Raasch. Interment will be at Zur Ruhe Cemetery, Cedarburg.  
    Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9 to 10:45 a.m.  
    Mueller Funeral, Cedarburg, is handling the arrangements.
