Jerold “Jerry” DeBroux, a lifelong resident of Port Washington, died Thursday, May 11, at his home. He was 86.

Mr. DeBroux was born in Port Washington on Nov. 9, 1930, the son of Leon DeBroux and Mildred Vanprice DeBroux. 

He graduated from Port Washington High School in 1950, and then served in the U.S. Army until being honorably discharged in 1953. 

On Oct. 10, 1953, he married Shirley Reiter at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lake Church. She died in 1996.

Mr. DeBroux worked as an insurance agent for American Family Insurance in Port Washington for more than 25 years, retiring in the late 1990s.

He was a member of St. John XXIII Parish, and enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, playing video games and slot machines and taking walks around the north side of Port Washington, his family said.

Mr. DeBroux is survived by sons Daniel DeBroux of California, Dean (Amy) of Fort Myers, Fla., Thomas of Port Washington and David (Lynn) of Menomonee Falls; sister-in-law Arla DeBroux of Port Washington; and grandchildren Andrew (Erin) DeBroux, Jennifer DeBroux, and Rebecca (Eric) Walkup; 

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, daughter-in-law Geralyn, brothers Norbert and Donald, and sisters Margaret Thielke and Eunice Bartelt.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 18 at 6 p.m. at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Peter of Alcantara Church, in Port Washington. Visitation will be at 4 p.m. Father Patrick Wendt will preside over the Mass.   

The Eernisse Funeral Home of Port Washington is handling funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.
