Dorothy Karrels died Sunday, May 14, at Heritage Health and Rehabilitation Center in Port Washington. 

The former Grafton resident was 87.

She was born on Nov. 29, 1929, in Germantown, the daughter of Reinhold and Hilda Wetzel Wendt.  Ms. Karrels attended Friestadt School and later worked as a bookkeeper for the former Black Wheel Restaurant in Cedarburg.

For many years, she also worked for FW Busch Corporation in Grafton, starting in the shop and later doing office and accounting work. Upon her retirement, she worked more than 10 years at the Grafton Pick ’n Save grocery store.

On May 11, 1974, Dorothy married Wilfrid N. “Willie” Karrels of Port Washington. He died in 1991.  

Ms. Karrels was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cedarburg and the Peter Wollner American Legion Post 288 Auxiliary.  

She enjoyed playing cards, especially sheepshead, and participated on many bowling teams through the years. Other hobbies included gardening and cooking.

She is survived by sisters-in-law Kathy Wendt of Port Washington, Lorraine Weyker of Green Bay, Janet Becker of Port Washington, and Anne Karrels of Port Washington; and brother-in-law Franklin (Annabelle) Karrels of Port Washington.

Ms. Karrels is preceded in death by her husband Willie; her brother Harold Wendt; brothers-in-law Victor Weyker, Leroy Karrels, Oliver Karrels and Joseph Bolz; and sisters-in-law Adeline Karrels and Janet Bolz. 

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Poole Funeral Home in Port Washington. Pastor Vicki Simon of Immanuel Lutheran Church will officiate. Visitation will take place at 4  p.m.  

Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Grafton.

Memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice are appreciated.
