Wendell D. Smith of Grafton liked to spend his time outside.
“He loved to garden and fish on Lake Michigan and at Lime Kiln Park,” his daughter Laurie Zeigler said.
Mr. Smith, 81, died Monday, April 10, at The Cottages at Cedar Run in West Bend.
He was born in Pierce on August 26, 1935, the son of Victor Sr. and Hannah Jabs Smith.
Mr. Smith married Joan Braunschweig on April 12, 1958. The couple had two daughters.
He was a Master Mason for over 50 years. Mr. Smith was raised at Henry L. Palmer Lodge #301 in Wauwatosa and was a dual member at Ozaukee Lodge #17, Port Washington. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason at the Scottish Rite, Valley of Milwaukee, and a Noble at Tripoli Shrine, Milwaukee.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. He belonged to the Golden Rule Chapter OES #194 in Wauwatosa where he was a Past Patron and was a dual member of Ozaukee Chapter #147, Port Washington. He was a former Grand Representative to Bolivia.
Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter Laurie (Jon) Zeigler of Fredonia, granddaughter Alyssa Sass of New Bedford, Mass., brother Victor Jr. of Alabama, and sister-in-law Bertha Mae of Two Rivers.
He is preceded in death by his wife Joan, daughter Susan Smith and siblings Caroline Arians, Beatrice Ray, Roland, Arlene Rappold and Vernon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at Grace Lutheran Church, Grafton.
An Eastern Star service will be held prior to the service on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the church.
A visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. A burial will take place following the service at Immanuel Cemetery in Cedarburg.
Memorials to Cedar Hospice Fund or Wisconsin Eastern Star Foundation are appreciated.
