Former Port Washington resident Lucas J. Gawrysiak died Saturday afternoon in a tubing accident on Lake Holcombe near Eau Claire.

Gawrysiak, 29, of Eau Claire, was riding an inner tube being pulled by a boat about 3 p.m. when the tube struck a concrete support pillar under the Highway M bridge, according to authorities.

Gawrysiak was tubing with a friend, his friend’s wife and their 14-year-old son, who was driving the boat at the time, according to Gawrysiak’s sister Rachel Schwister.

The accident is being investigated by the Department of Natural Resources.

Gawrysiak was a member of the Port Washington High School Class of 2000. He moved to Eau Claire after finishing high school.

He was athletic, participating in numerous sports and playing semi-professional football with the Eau Claire Crush after high school.

He worked as a roofer for Rock & Tait, and recently was promoted to foreman.

“He liked to live life on the edge,” his sister said. “He didn’t hold back. He was just a fun person. He had the greatest spirit, and could brighten anyone’s bad day. His personality was infectious.

“He might have passed early, but he lived a full life.”

A complete obituary for Gawrysiak is in this edition of Ozaukee Press.
