Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 18, for former Ozaukee County resident Dolores K. Mayer, 89, who died Wednesday, Dec. 15, at The Kathy Hospice in West Bend where she had lived for less that a week following a stroke.
She was born in Fredonia on Oct. 29, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Margaret Karrels.
On Nov. 11, 1939, she married Elmer Mayer at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Fredonia.
He preceded her in death in 1976.
The couple moved to the Town of Port Washington after their marriage, but lived most of their life together in the Jackson area.
Family members said Mrs. Mayer was an avid gardener who delighted people with the flowers she grew at her home on Main Street in Jackson.
She was also a talented painter and accomplished at rosemaling, winning several blue ribbons at the Washington County Fair.
Mrs. Mayer worked for Dr. James Albrecht at the Jackson Clinic for 27 years.
Mrs. Mayer is survived by her children Francis (Dolores) of Boltonville, Therese (Greg) Kirst of Green Bay, Ray (Carol) of West Bend and Marion (Gary) Wendorff of Hartford; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer and son Gene.
A funeral Mass was held Dec. 18 at St. Francis Borgia Church-North in Cedarburg. Father Dan Janasik officiated.
Private interment followed at St. Francis Borgia Cemetery in Cedarburg.
Memorials to The Kathy Hospice in West Bend are requested.Arrangements were handled by Schramka-Densow Funeral Home, Thiensville.
