YOUR PIX: A flutter of butterflies in a stand of teasel

Monarch butterflies (enough of them to qualify for the insects’ collective noun—flutter) decorated tall teasel plants in orange and black. Photography buff Mike Keller of Port Washington captured this striking image along the Ozaukee Interurban Trail. “Despite the gusty 30 mph winds that day,” he reported, “these fragile monarchs appeared to be gathering and preparing for their upcoming migration to Mexico.” Mike shot the photo with a Nikon D2300 digital camera at a resolution of 1016 x 4000. Teasel has a bad reputation as an aggressively invasive plant, but it deserves of bit of respect for its role in feeding precious pollinators.
