I-43 near Grafton was closed in both directions Sunday night after a woman attempted suicide by jumping out of a moving car.

According to an Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office press release, at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday, a 23-year-old Sheboygan woman jumped out of a car traveling northbound south of Highway 60 in the Town of Grafton.

The 29-year-old woman driving the vehicle told investigators she was unable to hold onto the other woman to keep her in the car. The driver also was from Sheboygan.

Several drivers stopped to render aid, according to the press release.

All four lanes of I-43 were closed to allow a Flight for Life helicopter to land and take the victim to Froedtert Hospital.

On Monday, the Sheriff’s Office reported the woman had been treated and released from Froedtert Hospital.

Also responding were the Grafton police and fire departments.
