Nomination papers for three aldermanic positions on the Port Washington Common Council may be circulated through Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Incumbent aldermen Paul Neumyer, Dan Benning and Patrick Tearney said Tuesday they are likely to run for re-election, although they said they had not made a final decision.

Benning is the only person to have taken out nomination papers so far, City Clerk Susan Westerbeke said.

Neumyer, who represents the city’s 2nd District, is the longest-tenured member of the council, having served since 2007.

Benning, the city’s 4th District alderman, was appointed to the Common Council in 2007 and elected in 2008.

Tearney, who represents the 6th District, would be seeking his second term, having been initially elected in 2018.

Any incumbent who is not seeking re-election must file a non-candidacy form by 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27. If they do not, the deadline for nomination papers for that seat will be extended by 72 hours.

Nomination papers are due at City Hall at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7.

If more than two candidates file nomination papers for any seat, a primary will be held on Feb. 18.

The general election will be on April 7.

Aldermen are elected to two-year terms and are paid $3,750 annually.
