Swim team improves despite loss to Nicolet

The result of Port Washington High School’s first home swim meet wasn’t indicative of the Pirates’ performance.

The Pirates lost to Nicolet, 136-55.

“Our first home meet this season went well with solid drops in times. The girls had a great week of practice and the times are starting to show it,” coach Danielle Peiffer said.

Junior Sarah Howell was the only Pirate to crack the top two in an event, taking second in the 500 meters in 6 minutes, 51.64 seconds. She swam with her Nicolet competitor the entire race.

“Howell fought hard, ultimately coming up short by one second, but it was a great effort,” Peiffer said.

Port got a host of thirds, fourths and fifths.

“Most of the girls are very new to this sport and it will take some time to close the gap,” Peiffer said.

The Pirates swim at 6 p.m. at Grafton on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
