Saukville Saints notch win No. 2 on their Rock River season belt

Although they often played from behind this season, last Saturday the Saukville Saints jumped out to an early lead and hung on.

The Saints topped the Rubicon Red Sox, 6-3, for their second win of the season.

They scored three in the bottom of the first inning. Steve Dickmann singled and Max Pruefer walked. Taylor Devenport drew a one-out walk and Mike Sherrick cleared the bases with a three-RBI double.

In the third inning, Dustin Kesner extended the lead with a solo home run.

The Red Sox battled back with two runs in the fourth inning and a solo homer by Justin Martin in the fifth to make it 4-3.

The Saints added two more runs in the eighth inning on three consecutive singles by Devenport, Sherrick and Tom Hartwick. Aaron Brockman was hit by a pitch and Jim Meulendyke followed with a single to score the second run of the inning.

Hartwick went the distance and got the victory, allowing three runs (one earned) while whiffing two and walking five. He allowed eight hits.

Sherrick had three hits and three RBI to lead the Saints, who racked up 10 hits.

The Saints’ game against the Brownsville 49ers on Sunday was canceled due to rain.

The Saints play at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Hartford, at Thiensville Mequon at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, and at Cedarburg at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 13.
