Richard J. Lorge

Richard “Dick” Lorge, 85, formerly of Port Washington, died peacefully surrounded by his children following a long battle with primary progressive aphasia on the morning of Monday, Nov. 4, 2019, in Rochester, N.Y.

He was born on May 1, 1934, in Cudahy, the son of Frank and Leona Schiller Lorge.

In his childhood, his family moved to Port Washington, where he attended school and graduated from Port Washington High School in 1952. After high school, he joined the Army and served in Okinawa, Japan, as a radio operator.

On Jan. 22 1955, he married the love of his life, Roseann Lorge of Lake Church, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake Church.

The couple lived in Port Washington until 1964 when they moved with their young family to Riverdale, N.J. In the early 1970s, they relocated and settled in Victor, N.Y.

After his military service, Dick worked as a draftsman for Bolens in Port Washington before finally pursuing a career in sales, prompting his move to New Jersey. He was a precious metals salesman in New Jersey before moving to Victor to take a sales position in water filtration products with Filtros. He retired from the Filtros Division of the Ferro Corp. in East Rochester, N.Y, where he had been their primary salesman for many years.

He was an enthusiastic member of the Canandaigua Yacht Club (N.Y.) and was an avid sailor, joyfully competing there weekly with his wife Roseann on an Ensign class sailboat. The couple also traveled to participate in Ensign class sailboat regattas throughout the region. Dick and Roseann also loved to travel to the Caribbean to sail chartered sailboats.

Dick has been a devoted and faithful member of St. Patrick’s Church since moving to Victor and enjoyed sharing his singing talents in the church choir for many years. In addition, he was a member of the Catholic Knights at St. Patrick’s.

He loved and thoroughly enjoyed his family and life, and was always willing to try new things. He also loved a good joke and was a keen follower and an early adopter of many cutting-edge technologies and devices throughout his life.

Mr. Lorge is survived by his devoted family: three sons, Jeff (Tammy) of Round Rock, Texas, Chuck of Victor, N.Y, and Jon (Deb), also of Victor N.Y.; two daughters, Barb (Bill) Harris of Farmington, N.Y., and Kathy (Grant) Vanderpool of Parrish, Fla.; five grandchildren, Clay (Laura) Harris and Nicholas, Jason, Michelle and Mary Lorge; and five great-grandchildren, Noelle, Wes, Ethan, Violet and Stella.

He is also survived by his dear siblings: two brothers, Jim (Ruth) Lorge and Bob Lorge; one sister, Carol Ann Filo; and one sister-in-law, Joan Lorge; as well as by his special friend Carolyn Kevin; and many loving nieces and nephews; all missing him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Roseann on Feb. 9, 2004; parents and in-laws; two brothers, Eugene and Jerry; and one sister, Mary Jo Bruecher; sisters-in-law Carol Lorge and Jeanne Lorge; and brothers and sisters-in-law Gordon and Laverne Lorge, Vernon Lorge and Bob and Armella Lorge; and two grandchildren, Steven Harris and Rebecca Lorge.

A funeral Mass will be held Friday, Nov. 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Victor, N.Y.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Nov. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Jarmusz-Cotton Funeral Home in Victor.

Interment will be in St Patrick’s Cemetery in Victor.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association are welcomed.
