Rebels win big early season matchup

The eighth-grade Saukville Rebels, coming in with the No. 1 ranking in the All American Youth Football League, beat the No.2-ranked East Troy Titans in their home opener, 22-0, last week.

Nate Uselding hit Connor Snodgrass on 40-yard pass play to start the scoring in the first quarter. With 1:56 left in the first half, Uselding found Jonathan Martin in the left corner of the end zone for a 24-yard score.

Matt Esselmann hauled in a scoring pass of 12 yards in the fourth quarter and went 2-for-3 on extra points.

The defense pitched a shutout and had five takeaways on the day, including an interception by Colton Haskins and fumble recoveries by Esselmann, Ryan Burmesch, Hector Rosalez and Mason Pierron.

 The seventh-grade team traveled to Oshkosh West and due to a number of turnovers were handed a 52-0 defeat.

The sixth-grade Rebels defeated East Troy, 31-13. Mason Sommer had a 48-yard touchdown run and a 36-yard scoring pass to Dylan Kirk. Kirk also added a touchdown run, and Jayden Lathrop ran for two scores. The defense held East Troy in check most of the day with physical play.

 The Rebels travel to Pewaukee High School on Saturday with the eighth-grade game starting at 9 a.m.
