A 74-year-old Port Washington woman died in a single-car crash Saturday afternoon on I-43 in the Town of Grafton.

According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia Niesing was traveling north on I-43 about 4:41 p.m. Saturday just north of the Highway 60 on-ramp when the 2004 Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan she was driving went off the east side of the road and into a ditch, rolled over, struck a tree and came to rest on its roof about 30 yards from the freeway.

Niesing was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A reconstruction of the accident was conducted and the cause of the crash is still to be determined.

The cause may have been related to a medical condition, Sheriff’s Capt. Marshall Hermann said.

Results of an autopsy and toxicology tests will not be available for some time, Hermann said.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash.
