Port tennis has up-and-down meet

Port Washington High School’s tennis team split its two matches in a triangular meet on Saturday at Sheboygan South.

The Pirates beat Howards Grove, 5-2, before losing to the host, 5-2.

Against the Tigers, No. 1 singles player Kaylee Doll won, 6-1 ,6-1. At No. 2 singles, Alli Hansen won, 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 1 doubles, Jessica Boccio and Chloe Schueller won, 7-6 (2), 6-2. The No. 2 team of Somers Selton and Lauren Krist won, 6-1, 6-3. The No. 3 team of Ashley Zygowski and Morgan Stone won, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7.

“We were able to beat Howards Grove by playing consistent and ending the points right away. Morgan Stone and Ashley Zygowski at No. 3 doubles were able to come away with two wins by attacking the net and getting their first serves in,” coach Melonie Zielinski said.

Against South, Doll won, 2-6, 6-3, 10-6. Stone and Zygowski won, 6-2, 6-3.

Last Thursday at West Bend East, Port lost, 5-2. At No. 4 singles, Pirate Zaara Rehman came back to win, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 1 doubles, Chloe and Tess Schueller won, 6-4, 6-1.

The Pirates were scheduled to play at Cedarburg on Tuesday, host Milwaukee Lutheran on Wednesday and play at a Cedarburg invite on Saturday.
