Port man wins first beer and wine run

Downtown race draws nearly 500 runners; West Bend resident takes women’s division title

Nearly 500 runners invaded downtown Port Washington last Saturday morning for the inaugural Wine Run.

Nathan Wildauer, 18, of Port Washington, won the overall title in the 5-kilometer race in 18 minutes, 36 seconds.

Candice Wayne, 25, of West Bend won the women’s race in 21:19.8.

A total of 472 runners participated.

A 5K walk was also held. Participants received a free glass of wine or beer at the end of the race. Those younger than 21 got soda.

Vines to Cellar and Inventors Brewpub sponsored the race.

The race benefitted the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight and the Milwaukee Fisher House charities.
