Port High to debut ‘The Addams Family’ this week

The cast of Port Washington High School’s musical comedy “The Addams Family” is set to the take the stage for performances at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, and Saturday Nov. 2 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3. The musical features an original story billed as every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the princess of darkness in this macabre family, who is played by Laura Cashin, has grown up and fallen in love  with a “normal” young man from a respected family. Wednesday confides in her father Gomez, played by Oliver Juarez Wunderlin, who is faced with having to keep a secret from his wife Morticia, portrayed by Allison Juarez Wunderlin. Everything comes to a head when the Addams family hosts a dinner for Wednesday’s boyfriend played by Tyler Grant and his parents played by Gavin Muller and Molly Pashak. Portrayed by Roman Cira, Uncle Fester, assisted by a group of ghostly ancestors that may be scary for children younger than 9, ultimately helps true love triumph. Other lead roles are Kalyn Diercks as Grandma, Matthew McCaman as Pugsley, Brandon Hale as Lurch, Dana Tremelling as Cousin Itt, Miranda Larsson as Ms. Itt and Megan Schnell as The Moon. The musical is directed by Diana Neumeyer. Mary Van Pietersom is the vocal director and choreography was taught by Laura Cashin, Dana Tremelling and Megan Schnell. The musical, which features music by Andrew Lippa, is based on characters created by Charles Addams for his single-panel gag cartoons. Performances will be in the Port Washington High School Performing Arts Center, 427 W. Jackson St. Tickets, which can be purchased at the high school and Drew’s True Value, are $9 in advance and $10 at the door.
