Port girls’ tennis team hits losing streak

Port Washington High School’s tennis team dropped both of its matches at Saturday’s triangular at Sheboygan South.

The Pirates lost to Sheboygan South, 5-2; and Plymouth, 5-2.

Against South, Chloe Schueller moved from No. 1 doubles to No. 2 singles and beat Sara Miesner, 6-4, 4-6, 11-9.

The No. 2 doubles team of Morgan Stone and Ashley Zygowski beat Alexadra Van and Elizabeth Santana, 7-5, 6-4.

Against Plymouth, Jessica Boccio and Madelyn Hughes at No. 1 doubles beat Cammi Nicolaus and Kennedy Arbuckle, 6-2, 6-2.

Stone and Zygowski beat Addy Hill and Riley Meyer, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Kaylee Doll lost at No. 1 singles to Alayna Wilderman, 6-4. 6-4, but Zielinski said Doll played well by using baseline placement shots and pace to stay in the match.

Freshman Gaby Ortiz at No. 4 singles lost to Aude B-h, 5-7, 6-3, 11-9.

“She showed great athleticism, topspin and movement of the ball ... we saw great potential of what Gaby has to offer,” Zielinski said.

Port lost, 4-3, at West Bend West last Friday.

Zaara Rehman at No. 2 singles beat Courtney Rummel, 1-6, 6-4, 10-6. Chloe and Tess Schueller at No. 1 doubles beat Rachel Degeorge and Kayla Lemens, 6-3, 7-5; and Stone and Zygowski at No. 3 doubles beat Lola Chemer and Lynnsey Justman, 6-1, 4-6, 10-6.

The Pirates lost, 4-3, to Hartford last Thursday.

Doll won at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-4, over Casidy Horst. Moorea Thompson at No. 3 singles beat Elizabeth Unger, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. Stone and Zygowski at No. 3 doubles beat Petra Landon and Cassidy Loosen, 6-2, 7-6 (3).

Port hosts Cedarburg at 3:30 p.m. Thursday and plays at Homestead on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
