Paul Kanios

 

Paul W. Kanios, 92, of Grafton died of complications of congestive heart failure at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton on Thursday, Aug. 22.

He was born in Iron Mountain, Mich., on March 31, 1927, to John and Dorothea Boettcher Kanios.

At 17, Mr. Kanios joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed on the USS Adirondack in Norfolk, Va.

Mr. Kanios married his high school sweetheart Kathryn Haling in Anitgo on March 9, 1945. The couple moved to Grafton from Milwaukee in 1957.

He worked for the Village of Grafton Public Works Department for a number of years and later as a truck driver. During retirement, Mr. Kanios kept himself busy with woodworking projects.

His family said he was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed music and playing guitar.

Mr. Kanios is survived by his wife Kathryn of Grafton; children Tom (Lora) of Saukville, Paul “Nick” of Adell, Lynda (Tom) Van Dyck of West Bend, Mary (Richard) Johnson of Saukville, Karen (Lyle) Hempelman of Cedarburg and John of Texas; grandchildren Heather Wetzel, Melissa Kanios, Andrew (Jennifer) Kanios, Justin Kanios, Stacey, Denise and Katie Ploof, Jesse (Meghan) Johnson, Emily (Jason) Fritsch, Keri (Jeff) Bertrand, Steven (Renee) Hempelman and Allison Kanios; and 16 great-grandchildren

He is further survived by his sister Elaine Light of Florida and brother Chris of Arizona.

Mr. Kanios was preceded in death by his parents.  

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 31, at Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Grafton.

Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service.

Memorials to St. Ben’s Food Ministry in Milwaukee are suggested.

Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, is handling the arrangements.
