The Ozaukee High School volleyball team showed improvement in their Big East Conference match against defending conference champion Oostburg last Thursday in Fredonia.

The Warriors put up a strong battle in the first game, before losing, 25-20. They dropped the next two games, 25-16, 25-14.

“Our team came out with lots of energy and hustle,” coach Paul Jungbauer said.

“We gave them a match and competed with them in the first set and a half. Our girls were very aggressive offensively which was good to see. You have to be when you are playing a team of Oostburg’s talent level.”

Sophomore Sydnie Stadler had seven kills and 12 digs. Senior Cayleigh Ebersold had 13 assists.

“We could not find an answer for Skylar Ternes, senior middle hitter for Oostburg,” Jungbauer said.

“She had a dozen kills and by far led them offensively.

“I was very happy with our effort and aggressiveness. This was much improved from our Cedar Grove match.”

The Warriors fell to 0-2 in the Big East Conference.

On Tuesday, the Warriors were scheduled to host Reedsville and on Thursday they play at St. Mary Central.

On Saturday, Ozaukee will host a varsity tournament beginning at 9 a.m.

On Sept. 18, the Warriors will play in a quad meet at The Prairie School.

Cedar Grove-Belgium’s volleyball team beat Reedsville last Thursday, 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22. Maria Dries had 10 kills. Caitlin Soerens had 19 assists and seven kills. Kirstin Osczucik had 17 assists.

Bailey Cooney had 16 digs

In a Sheboygan South tournament on Saturday, the Rockets beat Sheboygan Falls and Kohler before losing to Sheboygan North, Oostburg and Sheboygan Lutheran.

The Rockets were scheduled to play at Kohler on Tuesday and host Hilbert on Thursday.
