Owen Miller still lighting it up

Ozaukee High School alumnus Owen Miller has perhaps found a secret to his double-A team’s success.

His mother, sister and girlfriend spent a week with Miller in Texas to watch him play with the Amarillo Sod Poodles, a San Diego Padres affiliate.

The Soddies, as they’re called, went 5-0 in the stretch.

Miller didn’t balk at the idea of the team paying to keep the trio around for good luck.

“Honestly, we should have them do that,” he said with a laugh.

During the stretch, Miller hit two home runs and had a walk-off single.

“I had two strikes on me. I was just trying to put it in play with one out,” he said of the key hit that led to a 5-4 win over the Midland Rockhounds.

The infield was in, he said, and he got lucky putting the ball between the shortstop and third baseman.

The lights at the stadium flashed as he triumphantly trotted to first base.

“It’s pretty cool when everyone’s cheering and the lights are going on and off,” he said.

In more recent action, Miller had a five-game hitting streak from May 30 through Tuesday, collecting seven hits, including one home run and two RBI. He is hitting .305 on the season.
