New surface is a hit with players, coach

The Pirates enjoyed playing on their new surface, artificial turf for the first time after practicing on it for two and a half weeks.
“This thing’s beautiful. Nice and soft, no turf burns today,” running back Nolan Makoutz said.
It easily allows for making cuts.
“It digs pretty good,” he said.
“It feels good to run on,” quarterback Ethan Bairerl said. “And it looks nice, too, I love it. We’re all having a great time on it.”
“It’s awesome,” coach John Bunyan said. “Its a blessing to have, that’s for sure.”
