Neal L. Swang

Neal L. Swang Jr., 89, of Port Washington and formerly of Pewaukee, died Sunday, Sept. 9, at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Washington. Mr. Swang was born in Pewaukee on Dec. 14, 1928, to Neal Sr. and Celia Harland Swang. He grew up in the Pewaukee area and volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army during the end of World War II at the age of 17. He was later recalled to serve during the Korean War until he was honorably discharge for the second time in 1951. Mr. Swang moved back to Pewaukee, where he met Carol Mitchell. The couple married on Feb. 13, 1960. His family said he enjoyed watching Western movies, but his passion in life was to make sure that his wife was happy, his family said. Mr. Swang had many occupations in his life, but his favorite was being a greeter at the Pewaukee Walmart. He enjoyed meeting new people and saying “hi” to everyone. Mr. Swang is survived by his wife Carol and son Robert (Lisa), all of Port Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Nancy O’Neil. Funeral services were to be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington. The Rev. Colson Leach was to preside. Visitation was to be from 4 p.m. Wednesday until the service. Interment with military honors was to be at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. Memorials to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight are suggested.
