Mountain biking team sees record numbers

The Ozaukee County Composite mountain bike team had a record turnout at its first race in Eau Claire last weekend.

The team had 11 members between varsity and junior varsity, six of whom raced for the first time, coach Anthony James said.

Emma Kasza-James won the freshman girls race, beating 17 girls. She finished two laps totaling 11.4 miles in 57 minutes, 43.94 seconds.

Elly Grosenick was fifth of 18 racers in the sixth-grade race in 40:04.91 in her first race.

Eighth-grader Reese Kasza-James was ninth of 40 racers in 33:12.81.

Sixth-grader Harrison Ebbers was ninth of 45 racers in 35:18.86 in his first race.

In the eighth-grade boys’ race, Kaden Kopp was 11th of 102 in 29:44.18. Jacob Serano was 34th in 33:02.02 and Shawn Steltenpohl was 98th in 44:56.89. It was the first race for both of them.

Seventh-grader Gabe Chandler was 55th of 90 racers in 38:43.52 in his first race.

The next race is Sunday in Wausau.
