LETTER: A veteran’s memory of Billy Graham preaching in wartime

To Ozaukee Press:

News of the death of Billy Graham brought back a memory of the time I drove a truckload of servicemen to a Billy Graham rally in Korea in 1955 or 1956.

What was uppermost in my mind then was that this gathering of soldiers during the Korean War was a prime target for the enemy.

After hearing Graham’s speech and taking a step forward for Christ as he asked, I was relieved to be on my way back to our unit.

My wife was a Baptist before our marriage, and might have known for what Graham was famous. For my part, I knew it is written in John 3:16 that he who is baptized and believes is saved, but I still missed taking Holy Communion that day in Korea, which to those who face danger is important.
