LETTER: Unlike incumbent, challenger trusts climate change science

To Ozaukee Press:

During the long months of our current health crisis, in pursuit of a change of scenery and respite from staying home, I have been visiting Ozaukee Washington Land Trust properties and county parks.  Getting out has improved my health and reinforced my appreciation of the natural beauty just minutes from our village and town centers. Keeping in mind the pressures of global warming, it is important to me that these green spaces are preserved and protected.

I am a happy transplant to beautiful Ozaukee County. Recently, I was thrilled to learn of an excellent candidate for the state Assembly, District 23—Deb Andraca. Currently, former TV weatherman Jim Ott is in that seat. Unbelievably, Ott does not believe that we can do something to avert climate crisis. As the climate warms, this hot seat becomes more crucial. All of life is affected.

Deb Andraca believes in science and the power of making good choices. As a mother and teacher, she knows that this can and must be done in partnership with economic development. On her website, debforwi.com, she says, “Green technology can create great 21st century jobs while driving economic development.” I am confident that she will protect us now and in the future by voting to uphold high standards for the fundamentals that sustain life—air and water quality.

We need this intelligent and dedicated woman in the Wisconsin Assembly. It is apparent that Andraca is capable of independent thought and will not be an automatic rubber stamp for the outdated ideas that we get now.

Please join me in voting for Deb Andraca on Nov. 3.

Don’t forget to request your absentee ballot.
