LETTER: Republicans are naive to think Trump represents their values

To Ozaukee Press:

I am writing this in response to Timothy Landing’s letter to the editor in the Aug. 1 issue of Ozaukee Press.

Contrary to what is claimed in that letter, President Trump has not followed through with his campaign promises. So many are extreme or toxic to our way of life that even the Republicans can’t support them and the only way he can get anything done is with executive orders. According to the most recent statistic I can find, Trump has signed the fewest bills of any president to date.

Let’s look at some of his main campaign promises:

1. Lower the corporate tax rate. He lowered it to 21%, and not the 15% he promised.

2. He did not repeal Obamacare.

3. He did not build the wall or have Mexico pay for any part of it.

4. He did sign a Muslim travel ban. (But realize, please, that almost all mass shootings and terror attacks in this country have been the doing of U.S. citizens who are white males, not Muslims.)

5. He failed to cut funding to sanctuary cities.

6. His promise to establish a commission on radical Islam was a sham from the start.

It is sad to know that anyone can support a U.S. president who has told 11,000 documented lies to the American people in two and a half years.

Republicans should open their eyes and know that Trump is not representing their values.

The Trump flag Mr. Landing boasted of in his letter is stained and should be burned.
