LETTER: Parade a satisfying lesson in marching together for a cause

To Ozaukee Press:

Last year I left Cedarburg’s Fourth of July parade with real regret.

Regret that I did not leave my lawn chair and take up an invitation on a “Democrats for Wisconsin” sign that invited us on the sidelines to join them as they walked with conviction for what they believe.

But this year I marched with that same great group of people and proudly carried a sign that read: “We are All in this Together—Vote Responsibly.”

I sometimes have to hold back good tears when watching or marching in a parade.

Part of the reason must be seeing young and old proudly display what they give themselves to in life, be it in service to country, youth and families, firefighting, entertaining others, dog rescue, preservation of history through story, automobiles and agricultural equipment and much more.

Service to others is easy to spot in a parade, and especially in those watching us march in the parade.

For all the people watching Cedarburg’s parade who smiled and gave us a thumbs up, thank you.

It took a warm body coming to my door and inviting me to an Ozaukee Democrats meeting to turn last year’s regret into proud satisfaction.

Though I am not at your door, I am a warm body inviting readers of this letter  to come to an Ozaukee Democrats meeting.

Competent, caring people will be there, eager to help you be of service and discover skills you might not know you have.

Ozaukee Democrats meet every third Wednesday of the month. Mark your calendar. You won’t regret it.
