LETTER: How golf game will help teens with mental health problems

To Ozaukee Press:

All of us at Ozaukee Family Services want to thank United Way of Northern Ozaukee board members, Ozaukee County employees, especially County Administrator Jason Dzwinel, and everyone who donated or volunteered at the Ozaukee Autumn Open on Sept. 6 at Hawthorne Hills golf course.

Ozaukee Family Services will receive the funds from this year’s event. The money will be used to expand mental health services for youth in our community. In addition to counseling services offered at our office, we collaborate with area school districts to offer school-based mental health programs. These programs help make mental health services more accessible by removing barriers that may otherwise prevent individuals from getting help.

Our school-based programs include individual counseling done right at the school and various groups that address a wide range of topics including bullying, anxiety, self-confidence, negative peer relations, stress and anger management, social skills and positive coping skills.

All our services are free or on a sliding-fee scale; no one is ever turned away because of the inability to pay. The funds from this golf outing, along with the generous support of our donors throughout the year, allow Ozaukee Family Services to continue our mission of “improving lives to help individuals and families succeed”.

We also want to thank everyone who supported the event by golfing, sponsoring a hole, volunteering or donating a raffle item. We appreciate their commitment to our community and to the well being of our children.
