LETTER: Generous help in a teenager’s quest for a life free of diabetes

To Ozaukee Press:

I would like to thank Darren and April Klinter for inviting me to their customer appreciation event at Advantage Automotive. They offered to let me have a bake sale and raffle to raise funds for Stepping for Shannon, my Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation One Walk team. April secured all the raffle prizes for me, and my mom’s friends baked for us.

It was a great event because it kicked off my fundraising and helped my team reach our goal, and it allowed me to educate people about type one diabetes.

Many people see diabetes as an adult disease and are surprised to hear I was diagnosed with it when I was 11 months old. This will be my 16th year participating in the walk.

I pray for a cure so that I can see what it is like to live life without blood sugar checks, dealing with high and low blood sugars and having an insulin pump attached to me.

Thank you to everyone in our community who has supported me all these years. I would also like to thank the Ozaukee Press for sharing more information about juvenile diabetes with the Good Living article (Ozaukee Press, Sept. 5, 2019) about Ana Pyzyk and her service dog.
