LETTER: Evers won, but GOP legislators heeding a 70-county mandate

To Ozaukee Press:

I always get a kick out of the news articles and letters to the editor about the “will of the voters” electing our new governor, Tony Evers.

Yes, he did win the election by 29,000 or so votes. But no one ever mentions (including the writer of a letter to the editor in last week’s Ozaukee Press) that Evers won Milwaukee County and Dane County by almost 289,000 votes.

Which, of course, means that Scott Walker won the other 70 counties by a whopping 260,000 votes or about 56.7% to 43.3%. And the letter writer’s own Sheboygan County voted for Walker by an even larger 60% to 40% margin.

The Republican-controlled state Legislature is not overturning the will of Wisconsin voters. They are merely following the mandate of the other 70 counties in Wisconsin.
