LETTER: Can’t wait to see Trump gone? You’ll have to wait five years

To Ozaukee Press:

In the Dec. 5 issue of Ozaukee Press, Bruce Lorge from Belgium went on a rage in a letter to the editor calling our president a lying, tax-cheating, draft-dodging con man. He called him names which every Democrat uses without any proof or merit in their accusations.

He went on asking Republicans, of which I am one, “If he (Trump) is innocent of all charges, why does he refuse to provide witnesses and documents to prove his innocence?”

The answer is simple—the principle that as an American citizen you are innocent until proven guilty. This rule was already an unwritten rule of English common law. The phrase entered U.S. law through a Supreme Court decision in 1894.

Why should our president give credibility to the circus hearings conducted by the Democrats in the House of Representatives by giving them any documents to prove his innocence? Many of these hearings were held in secret with Republicans not allowed to attend. You call this due process as guaranteed in the fifth and 14th amendment?

I hate to take the air out of Mr. Lorge’s wish that he can’t wait to see him gone, but he will be our president for the next five years.
