LETTER: Bird-friendly glass is a must for Ansay lakefront building

To Ozaukee Press:

Spring is in the air. Well, at least around the corner. In Wisconsin, that means the construction season begins. I’m not sure what the schedule is for the new Ansay development at the lakefront. My understanding is that the plans have not been approved, so this is the time to voice opinions and make sure things are done as said when the development was first presented.

One thing is for sure, it is going to be big and there will be lots of glass. The Audubon fall 2018 publication has a great article, “Safety by Design.” It stresses that the use of bird-friendly glass can save birds from crashing into glass structures.

Our lakeshore is a migratory path, so it is doubly important that the Ansay structure uses this type of glass, as does the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, which was praised in a recent newspaper article as a “new friend for birds.”

Now is the time to express your concerns. Please speak out on this important issue. Our birds will have to live with it for many years.
