Keeping Port’s lakefront safe with Infos

In preparation for the summer swimming season, Port Washington officials last week formally opened the Infos system at north beach. The system offers people on the beach real-time information about rip currents and lake conditions to help them determine when it’s safe to get in the water. University of Wisconsin-Madison professor Chin Wu, who developed the Infos system, took a photo of (from left) Pete Kutzora of We Energies, which sponsored the system, Harbormaster Dennis Cherny, Wastewater Supt. Dan Buehler, Mayor Marty Becker and Beckie Perez, a founding member of the Waterfront Safety Committee, standing next to the signboards and kiosk where the information is disseminated.                                   Photo by Sam Arendt
