More than 30 Saukville homes were evacuated last week after a construction crew severed a gas line.

The gas main was struck with a piece of machinery about 1:17 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in the 1100 block of Iris Lane.

Saukville police and fire personnel arrived to evacuate residents. We Energies crews arrived a short time later and had the gas turned off by 2:45, We Energies spokesperson Amy Jahns said.

Residents were able to return to their homes at about 3:18, Saukville Police Chief Rob Meyer said.

Only one house had a gas outage and that was restored by the time residents were allowed to return, Jahns said.
