Grafton swims to fifth in NSC; Port Washington is last

The Grafton High School girls’ swim and dive team finished fifth at last weekend’s North Shore Conference Tournament at Homestead.

The Black Hawks scored 232.5 points, just ahead of Hartford’s 229. Cedarburg won with 540.5. The West Bend Co-op team was second with 409. Port Washington was last with 26 points.

Hawk junior Sophia Scolman won diving with 406.9 points. Maranda Uttke was fourth with 374.5 and Maddy Hillner was fifth with 366.6.

Grafton’s Libby Michel was third in the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 16.89 seconds.

The Hawks’ 200 freestyle relay team of Allison Garncarz, Michel, Maddy Hillner and Elane Proefrock was third in 1:44.95.

Garncarz was sixth in the 50 freestyle in 25.99 and tied for sixth in the 100 freestyle in 57.93.

Halle Grimm was sixth in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.35.

The 200 medley relay team of Grace Hahm, Grimm, Hillner and Garcarz was seventh in 1:56.92.

Emily Schulte was eighth in diving with 338.05 points.

Hillner was 11th in the 100 freestyle in 58.85, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Michel, Mia Bowen, Caitlin Kennedy and Proefrock was 11th in 4:11.65.

The Hawks got three 12ths: Makenna Slaminski in the 100 butterfly in 1:08.13; Michel in the 500 freestyle in 5:43.02; and Grimm in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.89.

The Pirates had 20 personal records.

Josie Tetzlaff had the highest finish, an 11th, in the 100 butterfly in a PR 1:07.01.

“At conference, we were reminded just how tough our competition is. We are up against larger and combined schools and some of the best swimmers in the state. But we stay focused on our improvement and goals,” coach Danielle Peiffer said.

Grafton swims at the Division 2 sectional at Jefferson on Saturday. Port swims at the Division 2 sectional at Plymouth.
