Grafton Chamber launches podcast series to promote village events

The Grafton Area Chamber of Commerce recently launched a monthly podcast series called “Get Away to Grafton.”

“We want the podcast to promote our events in Grafton, and eventually bring awareness about Grafton’s history and where we are today,” said Megan Schelwat, the Chamber’s special events and tourism promotion director.

A podcast is similar to a radio show but is recorded as digital audio file that can be downloaded and played at anytime through a computer or mobile device.

“There are a lot of people out there who don’t know what podcasts are,” Schelwat said. “Once they discover them, they begin to realize what a cool resource this can be because you can listen to it at any time as opposed to tuning into a radio show at a specific time.

“I think after a few episodes our listeners are really going to understand the benefits of a podcast.”

The new series is coordinated by the Chamber and the Chamber Tourism Promotion and Development Committee, which wants to keep residents and community members updated on happenings in the area.

The first episode that aired at the end of May discussed the upcoming Giro d’ Grafton bike race, which will take place June 23 as part of the Tour of America’s Dairyland racing series.

Tour co-founders Bill Koch and Bill Ochowicz were interviewed by Schelwat, and Celebrate Grafton President John Safstrom spoke in the podcast.

Schelwat said the next episode, which is to air this Friday, will focus on Grillin’ in Grafton. Village President Jim Brunnquell will be featured, along with several organizers involved with the event that will take place on June 29 and 30.

“We want to make it be a full-on advertisement so everyone is aware,” Schelwat said, adding the following episode will promote Ladies Night Out in August.

She said future episodes will be released on a consistent date that is to be determined, most likely near the end of each month.

“The idea is we want everybody to hear the podcast consistently and for them to know what to expect so they won’t be confused,” she said.

She also said she expects most of the podcasts to be about 30 minutes long.

The podcast series can be listened on iTunes, the Google Play Music app for Android, the Podcast Player app for Android, the Podcasts app for iPhone, and the Grafton Area Chamber of Commerce and Celebrate Grafton Facebook pages.
