Friday parade will kick off tributes to OHS seniors who had traditional events canceled

OZAUKEE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS gathered around their tractors on Tractor Day last year at the school, a year-end tradition in the Northern Ozaukee School District. Tractor Day isn’t happening this year, but graduating seniors will be able to drive their tractors in a parade through the community on Friday, May 22, to honor them. Press file photo

The Fredonia community will have an opportunity to celebrate and honor seniors graduating from Ozaukee High School with a parade.

The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 22, outside the school, wind its way through the community and finish back at the school.

One of those traditional activities that has been canceled is the annual Tractor Day, in which students drive their tractors to school.

Friday’s parade will help compensate for that by letting graduating seniors drive their tractors in the parade. No passengers will be allowed on the tractors.

Units from local fire departments and law enforcement also will participate, OHS Principal Mike Leach said.

Students can ride in a car, preferably driven by someone else. Other passengers are allowed.

No trailers, floats or wagons will be allowed, and only the American or school flag can be flown.

The Northern Ozaukee School District will hold a virtual senior awards event at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, and a virtual Celebration for the Class of 2020 at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 31.

Officials are planning an in-person commencement at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 26.

NOSD students have attended classes virtually since the state closed all schools in March.

Officials are hoping to begin a four-week in-person summer school session beginning in early July, if allowed.

If not, summer school also will be conducted online, they have said.

Enrollment in the summer school program of the district’s online charter school, Wisconsin Virtual Learning, also is planned.
