Gift of maples helps dress up Lions Park

Grafton Lions Park has four more maple trees, thanks to an anonymous donation. The trees — shown with Grafton Lions Club members (from left) Bob Mercer, Dave Mauer and Al Buchholz — were delivered to the 16-acre park along Keup Road and Cedar Creek. Each of the 15 to 18-foot maples weighed 1,000 pounds and was planted by village crews within hours of arrival. The club has been active in developing the park since 2004, when it purchased naming rights for the site. Since then, the Lions have raised additional funds for the park playground equipment and pavilion, planted trees and flower beds and installed benches and picnic tables. Money for a number of the projects has been donated by area residents, organizations and companies. Photo by Sam Arendt
